Full-Time Director, Engineering Projects

Reporting to the Vice President, Engineering and Environment, the Director, Engineering Projects will play a critical leadership role in the delivery of the Pier D Expansion Project at YVR’s International Terminal Building. The Director is responsible for all planning, budgeting, reporting and oversight relating to the Pier D capital program (in excess of $100m), and the delivery of multiple capital projects of significant value and profile with the portfolio. Working within a dynamic 24/7 operation, the Director will effectively engage with and manage relationships with a variety of multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders, both internally (operations, maintenance, baggage, cargo, security, airlines, retailers and others) and externally (regulators, architects, consultants and other third-party specialists). The Director will ensure that all work is completed in accordance to project schedules and budgets, and that any issues that arise, are dealt with in a timely and pragmatic manner. In addition, he/she will work with the Vice President, Engineering and
Environment to keep senior leadership and the board informed of project status.
The ideal candidate is a highly effective project leader with a track record of managing major, high value capital infrastructure projects ($100-$200m+). An expert within the design-build space, current with best practices and methodologies pertaining to estimating, scheduling, costing, design and construction of projects with continually evolving requirements. As the project lead, the candidate will have exceptional communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, be able to build consensus and support amongst stakeholders with varying interests, and challenge where appropriate. The candidate will lead by example and be a champion of safe working practices and culture, taking a collaborative and inclusive approach to managing his/her team, and encouraging creativity, innovation and open communication.
A minimum of 15-20 years of progressive experience delivering major capital projects is complemented by a professional engineering designation and a postsecondary education in an engineering or related discipline.
