Job Description

The Social and Community Services Worker Child and Youth Worker assists clients with their physical, vocational, recreational, social, emotional, and daily life skill development. The CSW supports clients to achieve the greatest degree of independence and quality of life as possible

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Review client background information, interview clients to obtain case history and prepare intake reports
  • Assess clients’ relevant skill strengths and needs
  • Assist clients to sort out options and develop plans of action while providing necessary support and assistance
  • Implement life skills workshops, substance abuse treatment programs, behaviour management programs, youth services programs and other community and social service programs under the supervision of social services or health care professionals
  • Meet with clients to assess their progress, give support and discuss any difficulties or problems
  • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of treatment programs by tracking clients’ behavioural changes and responses to interventions
  • Provide crisis intervention and emergency shelter services
  • Maintain contact with other social service agencies and health care providers involved with clients to provide information and obtain feedback on clients’ overall progress

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully implement instructional and proactive training programs for clients.
  • Must be able to perform lifts and transfers of 25 lbs.
  • Experience implementing positive behaviour support programs in a day program environment preferred,
  • Must be able to work with HIGH CHALLENGING CLIENT.
  • Must be able to willing and able to work all over Vancouver, Richmond, and Surrey.

STANDARD REQUIREMENTS OF THE COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKER INCLUDE:

  • Criminal Record Clearance
  • Medical Clearance
  • WHMIS
  • Food Safe
  • Valid First Aid/CPR
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certification (will train)
  • Demonstrated competency in English
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Authorized to work in Canada

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENT:

  • Degree or Diploma in area directly related to supporting people with developmental disabilities such as Social Services, Human Services, or Education
  • 1-2 years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities in vocational & community settings preferred
